Modern wedding photography in the Central Coast of California!

On Saturday I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the beautiful wedding of Jennifer and Ryan at the Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach. What an amazing day full of love! Not even the 28 MPH wind could put a damper on the festivities. I loved the venue with its 180 degree view of the Pacific Ocean. During the reception a big pod of dolphins began playing in the waves right outside the windows of the hall! What a fun memory especially for all the guests who traveled from out of town or out of the country to celebrate the love these two share. Enjoy a sneak peak of their big day!
We are so excited to be adding a little boy to our family in June! Because of this I will be taking the month of June off for maternity leave, but I'll still be taking appointments and expect to be busier than ever come July, so don't be afraid to keep contacting me. I will also make sure all products and orders are completed before the blessed event! I've already been doing shoots with my Class of 2015 senior ambassadors this week. I've got some great ambassadors and this is going to be an amazing year of senior portraits! I can't wait. There's a lot of blogging that I still need to do; lot's of amazing class of 2014 shots that I still need to post, lots of kids shoots to post, and I also get to introduce my new ambassadors. So really, I might be spending my maternity leave doing blog posts in between baby feedings! The other night, my husband Phil and I decided to do some late night maternity photos. Sometimes when the kids are asleep and we don't have too much work to catch up on, we like to experiment with our lights (or giant flowers) and have fun. Here are some of the shots...
The photo above is my sweet nephew Beckham. He is a fantastic model but we need more faces!
From now until March 1, 2014, we will be doing complementary sessions for kids in the studio. We are getting ready to launch our new and exciting kids brand of photography this spring and we need some cute faces to show what our style is all about. These shots will be clean and modern and showcase your kids personality.
We need kids who are at least old enough to sit up through 12 years old, to show our modern sophisticated style.
Here are the details: Use our scheduler to book a complementary 30 minute in-studio session. If you are bringing more than one child, please let me know in the comments section of the scheduler. After the shoot I will give you 1 fine print 8x10 photo of your choice or a $50 photo credit You will have the opportunity to order other photos but are not required to. See print prices here.
After scheduling you will receive further details on how to dress your kids, what to expect, etc.
I'm so excited about this new venture and hope that you can be a part of it. I'm really looking forward to having a fun session with you and your little ones!
If you have any questions email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When I was shooting with Leah I felt like I was working with a model. She is so tall and gorgeous. It was also a lot of fun doing a senior portait shoot with her horse! Nova (the horse) was being a little stubborn at times but still not quite as stubborn as some of the kids and infants I've worked with and were able to get some great images of both of them.
Phil and I have started a little personal project where every month we are going to do a photo shoot inspired by a different decade. After watching The Great Gatsby at the theater a couple weeks ago we decided an awesome one to start with would be the Jazz age! Luckily I had just the dress that I have been waiting for an excuse to wear. Fifteen years ago my great grandmother Dorothy (Gramsy) passed away. After she died, my mom went to her house and gathered 4 bins of homemade lace, dresses, doilies, and quilt tops that she had left behind. A few months ago we finally went through those bins and I found a beautiful handmade dress from the 1920s that belonged to Gramsy's mother Myrnie. I also found an adorable handmade lace sweater from the era so I wore them both in this photo shoot.
I am so excited to now be offering USB drives for all of my digital negatives! These are so much easier for everyone to deal with, no more temperamental CDs that scratch and don't always work on every computer. Plus, you can reuse it! I was so glad to get them just in time for Senior season (which is starting right now). While I'm showing off my awesome products I thought I'd add a few pics of my beautiful albums. I've been offering these amazing books for about a year to my brides but I've just begun offering them with my studio fashion sessions and senior sessions. And if you don't like pink, they come in loads of awesome colors. My books have the best quality printing I've ever seen. They are actual photographs that are bound into a book. The pages lay flat and have no break, just a subtle fold so photos can go all the way across. And the leather.... it melts like butter in your hands, seriously, it's amazing.
My mother-in-law stayed with us for a couple of weeks this month and we got her in the studio for a little pampering and some gorgeous shots. Can you believe that this woman is over 50 years old? She is so beautiful inside and out and I think these photos really show that. I know that my children will love and cherish these photos when they are older because their grandma is so important to them. The before and after photo, to me, is so much fun. Its purpose is to show the person without their hair or makeup done, lighting, posing, etc. and see the result when it’s all done the right way!
Mother’s and women want to look good and feel good about themselves right now. I know because I am one. I want to get more people, especially women, into my studio who just want to have beautiful portraits of themselves done. We all love to be pampered and to feel beautiful but unfortunately we don’t make the time for ourselves or all too often we are afraid to get behind the camera because we know how cruel a 2-dimensional photo can sometimes be.
One of my favorite things in the world is to photograph a girl (some who have never felt pretty in their life) and show her the amazing shot I just took in the back of my camera and see the expression on her face change. Usually it's a great big surprised smile and sometimes I have to wait for the tears to dry before I take another one :-) It is one of the most exciting things I get to do!
Enjoy some more of my beautiful mother-in-law Lisa.
Well we did it! After years of dreaming we finally decided to lease a studio. We are so excited for this new challenge, to bring a few different styles to our brand, and have a designated place to show clients their photos. Of course I will still be doing a lot of location photography, but this studio will give me the opportunity to do more modern portraiture and modern child portraits which I’m really looking forward to doing. I love the idea of having the space to experiment and try new lighting techniques without interrupting my family life. We contacted our friend Mike Ash in Modesto who is a top class commercial real estate agent. If you ever need anything commercial in the state of California, he is your man! He helped us find and secure this location and work out all the details. When we first visited the location, we fell in love. In Santa Maria there are very few places that are made from brick, and very few places that have high ceilings. The building itself was built in 1906 which is very rare in our city which is a fairly new city. It has so much character and we can’t wait to make it our own.
We will be blogging about the transformation of our studio, and because we just got the key I decided to do a quick “before” video with the iPhone. I was a little tired from the stress of getting the place and to top it off my kids were going crazy and the business next door told me that they were too loud. So excuse the low energy of the tour guide in the video! Also excuse the poor sound :)
I can’t wait to show you what I can do in this space!
Here's my beautiful baby sister looking stunning for her junior prom. I was able to steal a few shots before she headed off for the evening!
Just a couple lights, a white backdrop, and lots of fun!
Phil and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary last week! We went to dinner at Chef Rick's. The food was amazing! We even had a personalized menu that said "Happy 5th Anniversary Phil and Heather." I ordered a Black and Bleu Ceasar Salad that had the most amazing blackened prime rib, Phil had New Mexican pork tenderloin with apple-pecan stuffing. It was amazing food to say the least. If you are ever in Orcutt, I would highly recommend it. There's no need to ever go to Olive Garden or Roadhouse Grill when there is such amazing local food for a comparable price. We decided to have some fun and try some new ring shots with our wedding rings. I think they turned out pretty sexy! You can bet at the next wedding I shoot I will go crazy with the rings!
Since two of my three younger sisters have gotten a lot of publicity on my blog withtheir weddings...
I thought I would post one of my youngest sister who is also drop-dead gorgeous. Since her wedding won't be on here for quite some time, here is a fun one of her...And the inspiration...
