Jack, Class of 2019 Senior Portraits

Phil Hamer

It's hard to believe but it's already time to start taking photos of the class of 2019 seniors! Jack's senior portrait shoot was a great way to start off the season! We took some great shots in my studio and at Pismo Beach.

Jack will be the Senior Rep from St. Joseph High School. If you want more information you can contact him or me. Seniors in Santa Maria and Orcutt, California can get a discount by booking early.

What to expect when I'm expecting...

Maternity Photography

We are so excited to be adding a little boy to our family in June! Because of this I will be taking the month of June off for maternity leave, but I'll still be taking appointments and expect to be busier than ever come July, so don't be afraid to keep contacting me. I will also make sure all products and orders are completed before the blessed event! I've already been doing shoots with my Class of 2015 senior ambassadors this week. I've got some great ambassadors and this is going to be an amazing year of senior portraits! I can't wait. There's a lot of blogging that I still need to do; lot's of amazing class of 2014 shots that I still need to post, lots of kids shoots to post, and I also get to introduce my new ambassadors. So really, I might be spending my maternity leave doing blog posts in between baby feedings! The other night, my husband Phil and I decided to do some late night maternity photos. Sometimes when the kids are asleep and we don't have too much work to catch up on, we like to experiment with our lights (or giant flowers) and have fun. Here are some of the shots...

Porter and Ellie! Santa Maria Kid Photography

Heather Hamer

Santa Maria Childrens portraits 6

Porter and Ellie are such great kids! Porter is such a neat boy. He was so kind and very polite, and Ellie is only 4 and has a personality and smile that can light up a room! Ellie loved getting photographed and the camera sure loved her! Plus these two were able to get their pictures taken next to each other without trying to kill each other which is a true sign of sibling love.Santa Maria Childrens portraits 3Santa Maria Childrens portraits 2Santa Maria Childrens portraits 4Santa Maria Childrens portraits 1Santa Maria Childrens portraits 5Santa Maria Childrens portraits 6Santa Maria Childrens portraits 7Santa Maria Childrens portraitsSanta Maria Childrens portraits 8

Kid Models Needed!

Heather Hamer

Santa Maria Children and Kids Photographer The photo above is my sweet nephew Beckham. He is a fantastic model but we need more faces!

From now until March 1, 2014, we will be doing complementary sessions for kids in the studio. We are getting ready to launch our new and exciting kids brand of photography this spring and we need some cute faces to show what our style is all about. These shots will be clean and modern and showcase your kids personality.

We need kids who are at least old enough to sit up through 12 years old, to show our modern sophisticated style.

Here are the details: Use our scheduler to book a complementary 30 minute in-studio session. If you are bringing more than one child, please let me know in the comments section of the scheduler. After the shoot I will give you 1 fine print 8x10 photo of your choice or a $50 photo credit You will have the opportunity to order other photos but are not required to. See print prices here.

After scheduling you will receive further details on how to dress your kids, what to expect, etc.

I'm so excited about this new venture and hope that you can be a part of it. I'm really looking forward to having a fun session with you and your little ones!

Book your complementary session here.

The Jazz age! 1920s

Heather Hamer

Phil and I have started a little personal project where every month we are going to do a photo shoot inspired by a different decade. After watching The Great Gatsby at the theater a couple weeks ago we decided an awesome one to start with would be the Jazz age! Luckily I had just the dress that I have been waiting for an excuse to wear. Fifteen years ago my great grandmother Dorothy (Gramsy) passed away. After she died, my mom went to her house and gathered 4 bins of homemade lace, dresses, doilies, and quilt tops that she had left behind. A few months ago we finally went through those bins and I found a beautiful handmade dress from the 1920s that belonged to Gramsy's mother Myrnie. I also found an adorable handmade lace sweater from the era so I wore them both in this photo shoot.

Christian - Class of 2014

Heather Hamer

If you know Christian you know that he is amazing in almost every way. In fact, we had just a very small window of time to get some portraits done because his schedule is packed with being a full-time, all around stud. Enjoy a few shots of Chris. And for you lucky people there will be more to come later on!

Emily is another one of my awesome senior ambassadors for Orcutt Academy High School.  She was so much fun to work with and up for anything. We had an awesome time! Interesting fact: Emily swims 20 HOURS a week! The gorgeous and talented Vanessa did her makeup and we did a few shots in the studio and then went to Old Edna near Pismo Beach for some location shots. If you want a discount on your Senior Photos get in contact with Emily so she can hook you up!

Meryl - 2014 Senior Ambassador | Santa Maria Senior Portraits

Heather Hamer

I'm so excited about my senior ambassadors this year! I can already tell that they are going help make this the best season of senior portraits I've ever had! Meryl decided to do all of her portraits in the studio which I also thought was a brilliant idea. Especially since the wind outside was atrocious! Melinda Tully did Meryls makeup and hair in the studio and did a fantastic job. Meryl is giving away $50 vouchers off a photoshoot and is at St. Josephs high school! She can hook you up!

Mothers need to feel beautiful!

Heather Hamer

mommy blog 1

My mother-in-law stayed with us for a couple of weeks this month and we got her in the studio for a little pampering and some gorgeous shots. Can you believe that this woman is over 50 years old? She is so beautiful inside and out and I think these photos really show that. I know that my children will love and cherish these photos when they are older because their grandma is so important to them. The before and after photo, to me, is so much fun. Its purpose is to show the person without their hair or makeup done, lighting, posing, etc. and see the result when it’s all done the right way!

Mother’s and women want to look good and feel good about themselves right now. I know because I am one. I want to get more people, especially women, into my studio who just want to have beautiful portraits of themselves done. We all love to be pampered and to feel beautiful but unfortunately we don’t make the time for ourselves or all too often we are afraid to get behind the camera because we know how cruel a 2-dimensional photo can sometimes be.

One of my favorite things in the world is to photograph a girl (some who have never felt pretty in their life) and show her the amazing shot I just took in the back of my camera and see the expression on her face change. Usually it's a great big surprised smile and sometimes I have to wait for the tears to dry before I take another one :-) It is one of the most exciting things I get to do!

Enjoy some more of my beautiful mother-in-law Lisa.

My Studio!!!!

Heather Hamer

Well we did it! After years of dreaming we finally decided to lease a studio. We are so excited for this new challenge, to bring a few different styles to our brand, and have a designated place to show clients their photos. Of course I will still be doing a lot of location photography, but this studio will give me the opportunity to do more modern portraiture and modern child portraits which I’m really looking forward to doing. I love the idea of having the space to experiment and try new lighting techniques without interrupting my family life. We contacted our friend Mike Ash in Modesto who is a top class commercial real estate agent. If you ever need anything commercial in the state of California, he is your man! He helped us find and secure this location and work out all the details. When we first visited the location, we fell in love. In Santa Maria there are very few places that are made from brick, and very few places that have high ceilings. The building itself was built in 1906 which is very rare in our city which is a fairly new city. It has so much character and we can’t wait to make it our own.

We will be blogging about the transformation of our studio, and because we just got the key I decided to do a quick “before” video with the iPhone. I was a little tired from the stress of getting the place and to top it off my kids were going crazy and the business next door told me that they were too loud. So excuse the low energy of the tour guide in the video! Also excuse the poor sound :)

I can’t wait to show you what I can do in this space!

trenton | class of 2012

Heather Hamer

Natural light portraits are great but there's something completely awesome about the studio. For Trenton's senior pics he wanted something a little more classic and old school so we brought out the strobes and the result was fantastic! We did some outdoor as well. I'm so happy with these shots! Trenton is a classy young man with a lot of style and was great to work with. I hope to do a lot more studio in the future because I absolutely love it!Santa Maria Senior Portrait PhotographerSanta Maria Senior Portrait PhotographerSanta Maria Senior Portrait PhotographerSanta Maria Senior Portrait PhotographerSanta Maria Senior Portrait PhotographerSanta Maria Senior Portrait Photographer

We were blessed to get to know Robert this summer. We were his host family while he studied here for the month of July. Our little girls loved him to pieces, and we really enjoyed having him with us and were so sad to see him leave. Before he left back for Germany we made sure we got a portrait of him in our studio capturing him as we knew him, wearing a hat,  AF shirt, power balance bracelet, and a big smile.
